Anna Wilking is a Ph.D. candidate in cultural anthropology at New York University. She arrived in Quito, Ecuador in 2009 to conduct her research on street prostitution for her dissertation. She began filming a family she met during her fieldwork and followed their lives over the next four years. “Let There be Light” (2013, 52 min) is the product of this journey. She made her first documentary, “Carmen’s Place” (2009, 18 min), in NYU’s Program of Cultural and Media. Anna plans to defend her dissertation in December of 2013 and hopes to continue making documentaries in the future.
